Medication Errors and Medical Malpractice Guide

This guide offers ways to minimize risk of errors related to prescribing, medication management, and vaccination administration.

A study examining 30,000 closed legal cases involving medication errors found that prescribing errors were the second most common cause of lawsuits, following medication management errors. In outpatient settings, primary care physicians were responsible for 63% of prescribing error cases, followed by cardiologists (39%), orthopedics (38%), and obstetricians/gynecologists (35%).

Our Risk Team has created this guide to cover strategies to mitigate risk of prescribing errors and medication management in ambulatory care. Plus, ways to improve processes to reduce age-related vaccine administration error.
